Ukrainian Minister of Health Viktor Liashko met with a French delegation led by Pierre Heilbronn, the French Special Envoy for Aid and Reconstruction in Ukraine. The meeting was devoted to joint efforts to rebuild medical infrastructure, provide equipment and train Ukrainian doctors.

“Restoration of medical infrastructure is one of the state’s priorities. This directly affects the accessibility of medical care for Ukrainians. Despite the daily attacks and shelling of peaceful cities in Ukraine, the process of restoring those medical facilities that were damaged by russia is actively underway. We are very grateful to the French government for its comprehensive support of this process. In particular, for the projects to restore the Izium hospital and build a modern modular hospital in Borodianka,” said Viktor Liashko.

According to the minister, the Ministry of Health team has already prepared a project for the construction of a general hospital in de-occupied Borodianka, for which the prefabricated modular construction technology was chosen. According to preliminary design calculations, the hospital, which will be built with the financial support of the French government, is designed for 84 beds.

As part of the project to rebuild the Central District Hospital in Izium, which was damaged by russians, the French government is prepared to purchase and supply all necessary medical equipment. They are also willing to provide support for the development of the healthcare service delivery system in the region.

During the meeting, the parties discussed another joint project with France, which involves the purchase of mammography machines for Ukrainian healthcare facilities. About 15 million euros are allocated for this project.

It should be recalled that in July, as part of the Ukraine Recovery Conference held on 21-22 June, the Ministry of Health signed a memorandum of cooperation with the French Health Association. In particular, to join forces in restoring medical infrastructure destroyed or damaged as a result of the full-scale war.
