The delegation of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine paid its first official visit to NATO Headquarters and participated in a meeting of the Alliance as an invited partner. The parties discussed, among other things, the establishment of an emergency response system, the organization of supplies of critical medicines, medical equipment, blood products and consumables, etc.

“First of all, I would like to thank you for supporting the Ukrainian healthcare system in this difficult time. The war unleashed by russia has put a critical strain on the national healthcare system. The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has provided proposals on how to use NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine and the new NATO Multi-Year Program for Ukraine, including the financial content of the relevant trust fund. The proposals include the implementation of projects in the areas of medical rehabilitation, psychological assistance, and strengthening the blood system. We are grateful to NATO for its effective support and hope that our proposals will be approved,” said First Deputy Minister of Health Serhii Dubrov during a speech at NATO headquarters.

The parties also discussed the evacuation of the wounded among the military and civilians and civil-military medical cooperation.

Representatives of NATO member states took an active part in the discussion of pressing issues and praised the efficiency of the changes introduced and the resilience of Ukraine’s healthcare system in the face of war.

It should be recalled that earlier, the Ministry of Health approved changes to the qualification characteristics of doctors, who must now have the knowledge and skills to transfuse blood and its components. This, in particular, will allow doctors of these specialties who chose to defend our country and join the Armed Forces of Ukraine to use blood and its components to save our soldiers on the front line.
