The russian army continues to attack Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities, thereby putting an additional burden on Ukraine’s medical system. In addition, the enemy is shelling and bombing peaceful cities and civilians on a daily basis.

In particular, during this time, russia damaged 1,535 medical facilities and completely destroyed another 201 facilities. We are talking about Ukrainian outpatient clinics, polyclinics, maternity wards, clinics, etc.

Medical facilities in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipro, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts were most affected. It is currently impossible to obtain comprehensive information on the extent of damage to medical facilities in the temporarily occupied territories.

Also, over the two years of the war, russia damaged 103 ambulances, destroyed 258 and captured 125 ambulances.

Despite the numerous challenges caused by the war and the strain on the medical system, Ukraine continues to rebuild its medical infrastructure. Today, the country’s priority is to provide Ukrainians with access to the necessary medical services. That is why the Ministry of Health and its partners will continue to work to ensure that the affected medical facilities are restored and can provide medical care to patients.

Thus, as of the end of February 2024, 508 medical facilities were fully restored, and another 360 were partially rebuilt or are in the process of being restored. It should be noted that these are primarily medical institutions in the de-occupied territories, as well as those that have suffered minor damage, such as broken windows, roofing, facade damage, etc.

Most of the restored medical facilities are in Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv oblasts.

It should be recalled that the City Hospital No. 4 in Mykolaiv Oblast, which was damaged twice by russians in the first year of the full-scale invasion, has recently been restored.
