On November 22, 2018, the Government of Japan handed over the UAH 24.6 million worth of medical diagnostic equipment to the Kyiv-based National Specialized Children’s Hospital OKHMATDYT. The health professionals of the largest children's hospital in Ukraine will now use this modern equipment to perform various medical tests and procedures with high accuracy to detect, diagnose, or monitor pathologies and diseases, and to determine a course of treatment.

Only with the equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of the pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract and the lungs, the timely accurate diagnosis and treatment will be provided to about 1,000 seriously ill children from all over Ukraine treated annually at the Kyiv-based OKHMATDYT.

The OKHMATDYT’s specialists will use this proficient high-capacity equipment – in particular, the new histology equipment – to carry out complex diagnostic tests and procedures within minimum time. In addition, the data obtained will provide the basis for scientific research and disease prevention.

The medical diagnostic equipment was provided to OKHMATDYT as part of a large project implemented under the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of Japan on Technical Cooperation and Grant Aid. Under the Agreement, Ukrainian hospitals nationwide will receive the Japanese advanced medical diagnostic and treatment equipment worth a total of about UAH 112 million.

During the first wave of the project implementation, the Government of Japan provided modern equipment to the Kyiv-based OKHMATDYT, Shapoval Kharkiv Regional Clinical Center for Urology and Nephrology, and Rivne Central City Hospital.

During the second wave, the new equipment will be delivered to the emergency departments of hospitals in Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Smila, Rivne, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv.
